THE GOVERNMENT OF THE SMOLENSK REGION DISCUSSED THE STRATEGY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCE AT HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE CITY OF SMOLENSK AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE REGION

Acting Rector of the Academy, Sergey Kharitonov, participated in the meeting. The key topic of discussion was the universities' research work, particularly the Smolensk State Agricultural Academy's research for the agro-industrial complex.
Support measures for young scientists were outlined during the meeting:
• at the federal level – grant competitions, university technological entrepreneurship programs, advanced engineering schools, and much more;
• at the regional level – competitions of the Russian Science Foundation, co-financing of young researchers' projects.
Smolensk Region Governor Vasily Anokhin outlined strategic objectives: launching a regional scientific hackathon for schoolchildren and constructing the Gagarin inter-university campus.
All these measures are aimed at ensuring that scientific research finds practical application that universities work closely with the real economy and businesses, and that research activities at universities lead to sustainable development in the region.
